The creature in the Garo Hills of Northern India

A team is soon to embark on an expedition to seek India's answer to Bigfoot, the Mande-burung. The group is comprised of members from the Center for Fortean Zoology and will be lead by Adam Davies, they will leave on October 31st in the hope of finding evidence of the creature in the Garo Hills of Northern India.

Here is the story :

On October 31 – appropriately Halloween, of course - a team from the British-based Center for Fortean Zoology (CFZ) will be embarking upon a truly ambitious expedition to the Garo Hills of Northern India in search of legendary, hairy, man-like beasts know as the Mande-burung – or, in simpler terminology, the Indian equivalents of the United States’ Bigfoot and the Abominable Snowman of Tibet. The 5-man team will be led by Adam Davies – the author of the monster-hunting-themed book, Extreme Expeditions – and will also consist of Dr Chris Clark, Dave Archer, field naturalist John McGowan, and cryptozoologist Richard Freeman; the latter a former keeper at England’s Twycross Zoo and the author of the book, Dragons: More Than A Myth.

Jonathan Downes, the founder and director of the CFZ, says of these strange and elusive animals: “The creatures are described as being up to ten feet tall, with predominantly black hair. Most importantly, they are said to walk upright, like a man. Walking apes have been reported in the area for many years. These descriptions sound almost identical to those reported in neighboring Bhutan and Tibet. Witnesses report that the Mande-Burung - which translates as forest man - is most often seen in the area in November.”

Downes continues: “The Garo Hills are a heavily forested and poorly explored area in Meghalaya state in the cool northern highlands of India. The area is internationally renowned for its wildlife, which includes tigers, bears, elephants and Indian rhino and clouded leopards.”

He adds: “The Indian team will be led by Dipu Marek, a local expert who has been on the trail of the Indian Yeti for a number of years and has, on previous occasions, found both its nests and 19-inch long ‘footprints.’ The expedition team has also arranged to interview eyewitnesses who have seen the Mande-Burung. Camera traps will be set up in sighting areas in the hope of catching one of the creatures on film.”

As for what these creatures may actually represent, Downes has a few thought provoking ideas: “The Mande-Burung may be a surviving form of a giant ape known from its fossilized teeth and jaw bones, called Gigantopithecus-Blacki, which lived in the Pleistocene epoch around three hundred thousand years ago. This creature is, of course, extinct. However, much contemporary fauna such as the giant panda, the Asian tapir and the Asian elephant that lived alongside the monster ape, still survive today. It is thought by many that Gigantopithecus also survives in the impenetrable jungles and mountains of Asia. Its closest known relatives are the Orangutans of Sumatra and Borneo.”

And as Downes carefully notes, the CFZ’s intrepid explorers are no strangers to heading off into the vast unknown in search of mysterious and elusive creatures: “Last year the team, who investigate mystery animals all over the world, travelled to Sumatra in search of a small, bipedal ape known as the Orang-Pendek. Dave Archer and local guide Sahar Didmus saw the creature, and the group brought back hair that was later analyzed by Dr Lars Thomas at the University of Copenhagen. The DNA proved to be similar to an orangutan's, an animal not found in that part of Sumatra.”

Needless to say, I will be providing right here at Lair of the Beasts both careful and up to date information, as and when the team reports in to the Devonshire, England headquarters of the CFZ. Will the fearless five really turn up hard evidence in support of the theory that giant apes – possibly even surviving, relic populations of the presumed-extinct Gigantopithecus – actually do inhabit the wilder parts of India? Only time will tell…

Scientists in China To Seek out the Mythical Yeren

Scientists in China To Seek out the Mythical Yeren in picture pic image galleryA group of scientists in China are mounting an expedition to look for China's Bigfoot. For many years there have been sightings and reports of a strange bipedal ape-like beast in the remote mountainous area of the central province of Hubei. Now the Hubei Wild Man Research Association is looking for volunteers to help seek out conclusive evidence of the creature.
A group of Chinese scientists and explorers is looking for international help to mount a new search for the country's answer to Bigfoot, known locally as the "Yeren", or "wild man".

Over the years, more than 400 people have claimed sightings of the half-man, half-ape Yeren in a remote, mountainous area of the central province of Hubei, state news agency Xinhua said on Saturday.

Expeditions in the 1970s and 1980s yielded hair, a footprint, excrement and a sleeping nest suspected of belonging to the Yeren, but there has been no conclusive proof, the report added.

Witnesses describe a creature that walks upright, is more than 2 metres (6 ft 7 in) tall and with grey, red or black hair all over its body, Xinhua said.

Now the Hubei Wild Man Research Association is looking for volunteers from around the world to join them on another expedition to look for the Yeren.

"We want the team members to be devoted, as there will be a lot a hard work in the process," Luo Baosheng, vice president of the group, told Xinhua.

BBut the team will have to come up with about 10 million yuan ($1.50 million) first, and is talking to companies and other bodies to secure the funding, so there is no timetable yet for when they may start, the report added.

China is no stranger to cryptozoology. Tales abound of mysterious, Loch Ness monster-like creatures living in lakes in remote parts of the country.

Tibetans have also long talked about the existence of the Yeti, or "Abominable Snowman", in the high mountains of their snowy homeland. ($1=6.671 Yuan) (Reporting by Ben Blanchard; Editing by Ron Popeski).

5 Amazing Animal Migrations

Animal migrations are some of the most moving (literally) phenomena Mother Nature has to offer, these is amazing animal migrations in the world :

1. Monarch Butterflies

Monarch Butterflies picture photo image gallery in nature phenomena blogThe mass migration of Monarch Butterflies is arguably the longest – both in distance and time – of any insect species. Conducted over a number of seasons and generations, perhaps the most amazing thing about the Monarch migration is that their overwintering refuge in central Mexico’s Oyamel Fir forests wasn’t discovered until 1975. Will the majestic Monarchs be able to continue their epic migrations in the coming years? They face a range of difficulties, some but not all the result of human activity. Illegal logging, land clearing and simple population pressure will likely increase but besides these, regular El Nino events such as the one in 2009-2010 soak their winter refuges with rain, sleet and snow.

2. The Great Wildebeest Migration
The Great Wildebeest Migration picture image pic photo gallery in nature phenomena blog
The annual migration of over 1 million African Wildebeest and Zebras has been well documented by filmmakers and wildlife documentary producers for decades. Every February in the Ngorongoro area of Tanzania’s southern Serengeti plains, the “Great Wildebeest Migration” begins. The exact starting date depends on the progress of the calving season during which around 500,000 calves are born, but by early March up to a half million zebra, nearly 2 million wildebeest and around 100,000 other grazing animals are on the move, headed towards the fertile plains and woodlands of the western Serengeti across the border in Kenya’s Masai Mara region. The final obstacle for the Serengeti’s thundering herd is also the most challenging: the Mara river. Animals already weakened by weeks of travel through dry and barren savannah offering little food or water must now run the gamut of flood-swollen, rushing waters and swarms of hungry crocodiles. Around 250,000 wildebeest will die during the course of their 1,800-mile migration but the herds have proved to be remarkably resilient.

3. Legend of the Lemmings

Legend of the Lemmings picture image pic photo gallery in nature phenomena blog in the worldLemmings are a species of rodent found in northern Scandinavia, Siberia and Canada’s arctic regions. Being a herbivore in the tundra is a risky proposition and lemming populations rise and fall – sometimes precipitously – in good times and bad. Normally solitary creatures, lemmings may go on mass migrations when biological urges dictate the need to find new feeding grounds. At times, rivers and cliffs may block their paths – be assured, though, that lemmings who fall or drown in the process of migration do not do so willingly. A widely believed myth about lemmings is that they occasionally erupt across the arctic landscape on suicidal “death marches”, sacrificing themselves for the betterment of the species when food supplies run short. Not so – the myth was perpetuated by a 1958 Disney nature documentary called “White Wilderness”.

4. Gray Whales migrations
Gray Whales migrations picure pic photo image gallery in nature phenomena blog in the world
Gray Whales are a popular sightseeing attraction in and around Baja California but few are aware of the creatures’ long distance migration. In fact, Gray Whales have the longest migration route of any mammal, land or sea. Each year, these medium-sized, mild-mannered cetaceans make a round trip of 10,000-12,000 miles (around 18,000 km) between their winter calving lagoons off southern California and Mexico and their preferred summer feeding grounds around Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and the Bering Strait.Besides providing enjoyment for whale-watchers up and down the California coast, Gray Whales have another claim to fame: the 1988 effort to rescue three whales who overstayed in the arctic and became trapped in sea ice off Point Barrow. The drama was closely followed on American television and the rescue (which cost $5.5 million) entailed the use of Coast Guard helicopters dropping 5-ton concrete pillars to break up the ice and a Soviet icebreaker that helped carve a path from the whales’ shrinking pool of unfrozen water to the open sea.

5. March of the Emperor Penguins

March of the Emperor Penguins migrations picture image pic photo gallery in nature phenomena blog number 1
Emperor Penguins aren’t the only species of this iconic antarctic bird that migrate but they are perhaps the most famous, thanks in part to the beautifully filmed chronicle entitled March of the Penguins. These magnificent creatures are highly adapted to the incredibly harsh conditions they live in; even so, breeding during the bone-chilling, pitch black Antarctic winter is a monumental achievement in and of itself. Though the migration of Emperor Penguins to and from their inland nesting grounds may seem short compared to that of other animals in more temperate climes, the journey is fraught with hardships and the margin for error is exceedingly thin.

Bizarre Tongue-Eating Parasite Found in the Jersey Coast

Bizarre Tongue-Eating Parasite in the picture pics photo images galleryThere's been a spate of amazing animal discoveries recently--the giant rat-eating plants found in the Philippines, a huge woolly rat discovered in a volcanic crater--and now, yet another creature has emerged that could be right out of a sci-fi film. It's a bizarre creature that survives by eating its hosts' tongue and then attaching itself inside the mouth.

The sea-dwelling parasite attacks fish, burrows into it, and then devours its tongue. After eating the tongue, the parasite proceeds to live inside the fish's mouth. There's a horror film waiting to be made about this thing. Surprisingly, the fish doesn't seem to suffer any severe impediment--just the loss of its tongue--and seems to have no trouble surviving with its new, far uglier tongue.

While the isopod, a kind of louse, has been known to exist for a while now, discoveries of live specimens is rare. The BBC reports that "Fishermen near the Minquiers - islands under the jurisdiction of Jersey - found the isopod, a type of louse, inside a weaver fish." So no, the tongue-eater wasn't found in that Jersey. The Jersey Shore is still tongue replacing creature-free, if you stateside Northeasterners were worried about the thing ruining your late summer vacationing.

Not that you'd have to be too concerned anyways--the isopod isn't a threat to humans in the slightest, though it's reportedly vicious, and can deliver quite a little bite. One of the fishermen who found the creature described it thus: "Really quite large, really quite hideous - if you turn it over its got dozens of these really sharp, nasty claws underneath and I thought 'that's a bit of a nasty beast'." And while it can't seriously hurt people, it evidently doesn't like them: "It doesn't affect humans other than if you do actually come across a live one and try and pick it up - they are quite vicious, they will deliver a good nip."

Do Dinosaurs still exist ?By : P.D. Roberts

Paul Dale Roberts: Like I said once before, HPI investigates all things paranormal, even sightings of dinosaurs. I got an email from Zeiker Tamoshkin. Zeiker makes claim that while flying in a helicopter through the tropics of the Congo in Africa, he thought he saw a brontosaurus. This is a pretty big claim, except for the fact that a sauropodlike animal with a long neck called the Mokele-Mbembe has been seen in West Central Africa. It has been seen mostly in the Likouala region of the Congo, which is very swampy and remote. Many credible witnesses have come forth with claims of seeing the Mokele-Mbembe, such as missionaries, natives, hunters and explorers.

My work in Haunted and Paranormal Investigations is never done, even though I am trying to have a normal social weekend with friends, emails like these get me intrigued. I placed Haunted and Paranormal Investigations Ghosthunter-in-Training Chantal Renee Apodaca on this assignment. To research out any and all information she can get on Mokele-Mbembe or any other dinosaur sightings around the world! I would meet up with Chantal on Saturday, August 23, 2008 to retrieve her data. This Friday, I would try and forget about dinosaurs and head over to Andrews Park/Creekwalk to listen to a live band that is playing at this park. I would hook up with my friends Lynn & Cedric. We would later head over to Stars for more music and fun with a group called Cheeseballs. But, even though everyone was having fun around me, I was still thinking of Zeiker's email. Is it really true? Could a dinosaur or dinosaurs still exist in Africa?

Saturday was finally here, I told Chantal to meet me at my godson Mark Edward Landon Crew's home in Plumas Lake for his birthday. When I arrived, the atmosphere was festive, there was karaoke in one room and in other rooms of this spacious new home, people were dining on a huge banquet of Filipino food. Chantal was eager to show me what she found, but with so much going on at the birthday party, I told Chantal to wait and later we would head over to a quiet bar at Cache Creek Casino and go over the paperwork.

Finally we left the fun times at Dirk & Maria Crew's home and headed over to Cache Creek Casino - Club 88. The band didn't start and it was nice and quiet at the bar. Chantal delivered data that human footprints have been found at a Colorado dry creek next to dinosaur prints. This would place the existence of man in the dinosaur age. But, this doesn't tell me that if dinosaurs do exist in the present time. Plus, what if those footprints found in the Colorado dry creek are not the foot prints of humans, but are foot prints of extraterrestials that were visiting Earth during the age of dinosaurs? If they were extraterrestial footprints, this would give credence to Erich von Daniken's theory of ancient astronauts visiting Earth during ancient times. Very interesting.

Chantal and I, discussed on how dragons are reptiles. We discussed the how they are similar to dinosaurs and it seems that every ancient culture believed that dragons existed. Chantal points out that at Babylon, at the Temple of Bel, Nebuchadnezzer kept a dragon around and when he tried to represent the dragon as a god, Daniel poisoned and killed the dragon. The dragon is referred to as the Sirrush. So, if you believe in biblical stories, then this story has some credibility. There are reportings of dinosaur looking creatures found at Loch Ness. Even one time at Folsom Lake in the early 60s. a sea serpent was seen. Folsom Lake is near where I live. Could Nessie of Loch Ness, or Loch Morar Monster, only 70 miles to the southwest of Loch Ness be some sort of Basilosaurus aka Zeuglodon? A Basilosaurus is a primitive serpentine whale that died out 50 million years ago. Could somehow some of these Basilsaurus have survived? Could the Ogopogo of Okanagan also be a Basilosaurus? So many questions and so little answers.

Let's take a look at the Emela Ntouka (Killer of Elephants). One day 3 adult elephants were floating in the river's waters. All three elephants had huge puncture marks embedded into their bodies. The tusks were intact, which would mean that poachers didn't do the killings. The neighboring tribes started talking about how possibly these elephants were killed by a dinosaur. This happened at Lake Tele, Africa.

But, not everything happens in Africa. There are dinosaur sightings also in South America. The natives have seen tracks of their elusive swamp dwelling beast(s). Tracks that look like tracks from dinosaurs. No, I am not talking about fossilized tracks, I am talking about fresh tracks. It is rumored that in the steep mountains of Guayana Massif, there may be some surviving dinosaurs. Also in South America natives claim to see a plesiosaur type of creature in their neighboring lake.

So it appears that Africa and South America is teeming with dinosaur activity. That is great, at least we don't have dinosaurs in North America (unless you want to count sea serpent claims in our Great Lakes and other areas). Wait, what's this? Chantal hands over some documents and it appears that Myrtle Snow claimed to have seen baby dinosaurs in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. This happened in 1935. She then claims to have witnessed other dinosaurs in 1937 and 1978. How can one person have seen so many dinosaurs throughout the years? I think there was something in the water at Pagosa Springs. This story is hard to chew. Thanks Chantal, but what else do you have? Chantal hands one more document over to me. In 1934, a South Dakota farmer claimed he saw a dinosaur in Campbell Lake. The key word is 'claim'. There is no proof of his sighting and a through search of past records indicates no other witnesses saw this dinosaur except that South Dakota farmer and there is no photographic evidence. Claims make good stories, but we need some kind of proof.

The only reason why the South American and African dinosaurs have some foundation of truth is because there are so many witnesses to the events. Either all these people are lying or they are actually seeing something in those jungles.

I conclude this article with the following possibilities of what these witnesses are seeing. They are either seeing:
a) The residual haunting effect of dinosaurs of the past. The residual energy left by these former reptiles could be imprinted into the atmosphere.
cool.gif Or they could be seeing an interdimensional creature that is able to jump from our reality into another reality. This would explain why no dinosaur has been shot and killed or captured. Many theorists think that Bigfoot is an interdimensional creature and that is why we cannot capture or kill a Bigfoot.

Whatever the situation is, many people are claiming to be seeing dinosaurs in Africa and South America. This is truly an X-Files type of case, with no simple answers.

As Chantal and I, were ready to wrap up this case, the band began to start. We were ready to call it a day.

The band that was playing is called Ridgemont High and they can be found at www.ridgemonthighrocks.com . They started playing a slew of 80s hits. We were in complete awe, because one of the band members is only 14 years old and she had the voice of a superstar. Everyone in the audience was in awe. The other lovely lady in the band is also part of www.steelbreeze.info and she also rocked the house. Everyone in the band took turns at various songs of the 80s and they were tremendously good! Before we knew it we found ourselves on the dance floor dancing to Journey, Gap Band, Robert Palmer and many other great artists. We got entranced with the music and one of the band members thanked the Solid Gold Dancers. He was talking about Chantal and I. So much for getting home early and working on this article. We stayed at Club 88 until it closed, dancing the night away.

Sasquatch Sightings In Northern British Columbia, Canada

Sasquatch in Northern British Columbia, Canada pictures images pics photos galleryHouston, British Columbia, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Paranormal specialists say there have been three reported Sasquatch sightings in northern British Columbia in Canada within a month.
Brian Vike, director of (Houston, British Columbia, Canada) HBCC UFO Research, told The (Vancouver) Province he doesn't "know what to make of all this."
Delores Harrie of Houston said her dogs started barking July 28 and when she went outside to see what was what she saw some kind of hairy creature running into a wooded area.
"It was huge, about 7 to 8 feet tall, and hairy," she said. "He had long hair, shaggy."
She said it wasn't a grizzly bear because it was running on two legs.
She notified Vike, who investigated and said he found markings on the ground.

"There's some cow tracks, but this was something else -- someone with a good-sized foot," he said
The report said there was another sighting in the area in July and one in Moricetown, about 90 minutes away, Aug. 27 -- as well as a sighting Aug. 31 in Campbell River on Aug. 31.

Cobra's Albino From India

The Albino Cobra's in India pictures images pics photos galleryThis rare albino cobra may look beautiful, but it is just as deadly as the rest of its species.
The three-and-a-half foot reptile was the only one of his albino siblings to survive, and is now kept on his own in a specially constructed enclosure.

Called Goya, he spends most of its day indoors due to his sensitivity to light, only venturing outside for his daily meal of five live rats.

Visitors flock to the Madras Crocodile Bank Trust in the Indian city of Chennai because of Goya's remarkable beauty, according to the trust's curator.

"We explain to them that Goya is actually lucky to be here because he would not survive for long in the wild as he has virtually no camouflage," Nikhil Whitaker said.

"Cobras in India are revered amongst the Hindu population, so you can imagine the interest a specimen such as this creates," he added.

"We sometimes think that he knows that he receives special attention and plays up to that."

Goya, who is a milky colour with shades of pink, was a gift from Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka where they specially breed albino snakes.

Cobra bites can be fatal because of their deadly venom, but they only attack humans if they believe their survival is threatened.

The Leopard sharks With Swimmer in California

The Leopard sharks With Swimmer in California pictures pics galleryPaddling into the crystal clear waters she had no idea she was walking into every swimmer's nightmare -dozens of sharks collecting off the coast of Marina Del Rey, near Los Angeles, California.

Before she knew it, she was surrounded by dozens of Leopard sharks - and had to make a dash for the shore.

The dramatic episode was captured on film by a traffic helicopter from a local news show last month.

The Leopard sharks With Swimmer in California images photosThe KTLA helicopter had been in the skies following news stories and providing traffic updates for the Los Angeles television station.

In almost comic scenes, it catches the moments she suddenly spots the array of fins and realising her predicament she sprints for the beach.

Distinctively marked with dark brown spots on a silvery grey background, they are known to grow up to seven feet in length.

In hindsight the swimmer can reassure herself that the leopard sharks posed little danger to humans.

Mr. Drew Hammonds Snapping Turtle At Earlswood Lake Near Birmingham

Mr. Drew Hammonds and turtle pictures picsWhen fisherman Drew Hammonds saw a spiky armour-plated creature at the end of his line, he made a snap decision.
He dropped his rod and started to run. But after a quick look back he realised he had landed a snapping turtle.
And being so far from its native U.S., it was very snappy indeed.
Mr Hammonds, 37, caught the turtle early last Tuesday while fishing with friends at Earlswood Lake near Birmingham.

‘I only went fishing for carp,’ he said. ‘I thought I’d caught a big one when my rod started to bend. ‘Then I spotted a big shell coming out of the water, with spikes on its back.

Mr. Drew Hammonds and turtle photos images gallery‘It was hissing and spitting when we caught it - it was really vicious. You couldn’t go anywhere near it without it going for you.

‘It ripped through my net and my friend’s net.’ Worried that the turtle was hurt, the men tried to remove the hook in its mouth before putting it back in the water.

‘It kept snapping at me so I had to be careful. In the end I used metal forceps to cut through the hook. I had to do it quickly, because it was going for my hand.’

Turtle specialist Paul Eversfield identified the creature as an alligator snapping turtle (macroclemys temminckii). Mr Eversfield, from the British Chelonia Society, said the turtles were native to the southern states of the U.S.

‘They are potentially the largest freshwater turtles in the world with record size of over 100kg,’ he said.
‘As such, they represent the top predator in their natural environment and are capable of eating large fish and water fowl. Their natural diet is fish, crayfish, and smaller turtles.

‘Having been around, largely unchanged for nearly 200 million years, their survival strategy obviously works very well.

Rare Blue Lobster Found in The Isle of Man Island, England

Rare Blue Lobster Found in The Isle of Man Island, England pictures pics photos images galleryPulled from the ocean to be served in a posh restaurant, this lobster could be forgiven for feeling a little blue.
But his unusual colour has proved a lifesaver for the unusual 5lb crustacean as he has been deemed too interesting to eat.
Saved from the the boiling pot, Blue - as he has naturally been christened - was caught off the coast of the Isle of Man by three stunned lobsters potters.
Scientists say just one lobster in two million is blue - the result of a genetic defect that causes them to produce an excessive amount of protein.
He was caught by John Williams, Bev Cregeen and Wayne Pearson who were pulling lobster pots on to their boat, Whisky Galore, when they spotted Blue sitting forlornly in one of the pots.
Miss Cregreen said: 'He was a different colour from the rest of them, but it was only when we looked it up on the internet we realised how rare blue lobsters are.

'We don't know what to do with him. It would be nice to put him somewhere for people to see. He's too good to be eaten.'
And because of his different colour, Blue, cannot be released back into the wild as his colour makes him a target for other lobsters.
Until a suitable home can be found Blue is being kept in a stock box where he is safe from the snapping pincers of other jealous lobsters.
A research study conducted by Professor Ronald Christensen, at the University of Connecticut, USA, found that excessive levels of a protein combines with a red caratenoid molecule known as astaxanthin, forming a blue complex known as crustacyanin. It is this that makes the lobster blue.
In 2006 lobsterman David Percy caught a yellow lobster near Whaleback Island in the US at the mouth of the Kennebec River. The odds of finding a yellow lobster are approximately 1 in 30 million.
It is estimated that only about one in 100 million lobsters are albino - lacking in coloured pigments. They are known as 'white' or 'crystal' lobsters.
